A Comparison of Two Firmness-testing Machines for Measuring Blueberry Firmness and Size
نویسندگان
چکیده
Firmness is an important fruit quality trait in northern highbush blueberry ( Vaccinium corymbosum ). Many researchers, growers, and packers rely on machines for measuring firmness right after harvest during postharvest cold storage of fresh fruit. In this study, we compared two that use compression measurements to determine a force-deformation value. The first firmness-testing machine has been the past 30 years by ) researchers worldwide. second market 5 years. We size several commercial cultivars breeding accessions both at 2 weeks postharvest. general, found there were slight differences between machines, but these generally consistent across machines. Our study suggests that, one can predict taken other machine.

متن کاملComparison of Four Nondestructive Sensors for Firmness Assessment of Apples
Nondestructive firmness measurement is critical to assuring postharvest quality and marketability of apples. In this research, two in-house developed sensors (bioyield and spectral scattering) and two commercial sensors (acoustic and visible and shortwave nearinfrared (Vis-SWNIR) spectroscopy), were evaluated for assessing the firmness of apples. Spectral scattering measurements were taken from...
متن کاملHyperspectral Scattering for assessing Peach Fruit Firmness
Light scattering is related to the structural characteristics of fruit and hence is potentially useful for estimating fruit firmness. This research investigated hyperspectral scattering as a means for measuring peach fruit firmness. A hyperspectral imaging system was used to simultaneously acquire 153 spectral scattering profiles, generated by a broadband light beam, from ‘Red Haven’ and ‘Coral...
